Modifieds come in many flavors across the US and Canada. Many modified sanction rules include an engine claim procedure whereby a driver who finishes well in a race can claim the winner's engine for some very low cost (No fuel system or intake, tranny or headers, but the rest for less than $1000). This keeps the engine costs down and the competition up. Buying a race with a hot engine will cost alot of money!
On the other hand, some of the "outlaw" modifieds look and act a lot like sprints but with engines offset way to the left and hydraulic wings which flatten on the straighaways and tilt up for maximum downforce in the turns. These are some of the fastest short-track cars around and every car is very different.
This page will lead you to summaries of technical aspects of various types of Modifieds. Since there are so many, you'll probably find that something is missing. If you do, and you know what you are talking about, please see our race machines page to find out how to fix our mistakes and holes. We'd also greatly appreciate submissions of rule books and other info for us to feature here.
