Late Models come in many flavors across the US and Canada. Some are truly stock-based cars while others are wheels-up race cars. Most run 350 V-8s, while some run 6s and 4s. Throughout Late Model racing, you'll see alot of Monte Carlos, Luminas, Grand Prix, T-Birds, Camaros and such - and most even have the shape of those street cars! In all cases, they have safety equipment and structural features which allow them to reach some very high speeds on short tracks.
This page will lead you to summaries of technical aspects of various types of Late Models. Since there are so many, you'll probably find that something is missing. If you do, and you know what you are talking about, please see our race machines page to find out how to fix our mistakes and holes. We'd also greatly appreciate submissions of rule books and other info for us to feature here.

Asphalt "Super" Late Models are literally a fiberglass shell around a race chassis. You can see that the inside of this front wheel well contains just a little bit of stiffening and is quite collapsable. |

This wheel well is being used to run vent hoses from the front air dam to the brakes for cooling. Again, it is all very fragile and crumples easily (and cheaply!) |
