The Sports Car Club Of America (SCCA) is only second to NHRA Drag Racing in the number of participants. The SCCA Solo II events pit drivers and their machines against a simulated road course in places such as aircraft runways and large parking lots. These temporary courses, marked by pylons and line-marking lime, are used to test skill rather than all-out speed and are designed with the utmost safety in mind for the competitors and spectators alike. Drivers are usually allowed three or more individual runs on the course (thus, the name 'Solo"), with their lowest elapsed times compared to determine finishing order. Classes are arranged to allow a wide range of vehicles to compete in groups with comparable size, power, and degree of preparation. In 1997, we competed in the SCCA Solo II "G" Stock, and co-drove Chelsea's Solo II car in 1998, 1999 and 2000 in KCRegion SCCA events, Divisionals and Solo II Nationals. We will begin rebuilding one of the Starfires (Red Bullet) for the Street Modified class as well as a car for the Street Modified 2 class in the future, and we will also work toward building a dedicated "C" Prepared car at a later date.
The Crown Autocross Club is a stand-alone group here in Kansas City that holds 8 events per year, with many of the same participants as the Kansas City Region of SCCA. Crown, along with Kansas City and Kansas Regions of SCCA and others work together to avoid schedule conflicts so local racers have over 20 events in the area, along with the Kansas City Championship Autocross, a 2-day event co-hosted by Crown and Kansas City Region SCCA.
